Design pedagogy is the area of inquiry into processes and tools for design learning and education. Work carried out in IdeasLab in this area include development of new teaching methods and curricula in the areas of design methodology, design creativity, and design research methodology.

The outcomes include the following:


Probably the only curricular course on DRM - a design research methodology. It is offered as a core postgraduate course for research students in Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. Pedagogical contributions include student driven and student centred learning (student-driven learning), and working on live and ongoing research projects as the primary basis of learning how to do research (learning by doing).


A course on design methodology that trains post graduate students of design how to carry out systematic design. Pedagogic contributions include student-centred learning and learning by doing, and use of both visual thinking and design thinking for carrying out designing.


A course on design creativity is offered as an elective course for postgraduate students of design. Pedagogical contributions include use of Yoga and breathing techniques to develop relaxation and concentration skills for enhancing creativity, and use of skills, methods and approaches for helping one develop one’s own methodology for design.
