The output of legacy machine depends mostly on the operator skill. Sometimes the gradual degradation and the abnormal operating conditions of the machine may be unnoticed by the operator which will affect the quality of the operation as well as the machine. Our research focus on the development of systems to improve the efficiency and performance of legacy machine without depending much on the skilled operator. Combining network of sensors, control system, communication and cloud based analytics with legacy machine can enable in creating digital twin for the machine and the product. These digital twins can then be used along with real time sensory data from the machine by an edge device to both predict machine tool performance and support the operator in extracting optimal performance from the machine tool.
