AIEDAM - Editorial - Boldly, to go
  1. >>pagegroup<<

Editorial?

As Captain of the starship Enterprise in the Star Trek TV program, Kirk's job was "to boldly go where no one has gone before". I'd like to think that the AI EDAM journal has done just that, and will continue to do so.

The goals of the journal are to publish the best new research in the field, to publish cutting edge special issues about current and future "hot topics", to build, maintain and engage a community of scholars involved with AI EDAM topics, and to do all of this while aspiring to the highest standards.

This is my last issue as Editor in Chief of the journal. Ten years is enough: it's time to be bold, and go.

With the next volume in 2012 I hand the reins over to Professor Yan Jin, from the Department of Aerospace & Mechanical Engineering, at the University of Southern California. Yan is highly qualified for the job: he is an ASME Fellow with a distinguished academic and industrial career, strong interest in Artificial Intelligence, time spent on the AI EDAM Editorial Board, and experience as an Associate Editor for another journal.

We will work together to ensure a smooth transition, that neither readers nor authors should notice. I will remain on the Board and look forward to contributing to the journal's, and Yan's, continued success.

I would like to give a huge vote of thanks to all the previous Editors in Chief, the Authors, Reviewers, Guest Editors, Associate Editors, Editorial Board members, Cambridge University Press staff, and our Managing Editor Nancy BriggsShearer, for all their support and hard work during my time as Editor in Chief. I'm confident that you'll do the same for Yan.

It is a happy coincidence that the next volume will be used to mark the 25th Anniversary of the AI EDAM journal. I wish Yan good luck as the journal's 4th Editor in Chief, as he leads it towards another 25 years.
